CVC New Beginnings

Who we are: Conestoga Vizsla Club (CVC) New Beginnings is a Virginia-based non-profit rescue group that helps Vizslas in need, primarily in the VA, MD, DE, and DC region.

There are many reasons we are contacted by those who need to surrender their Vizsla(s) and some come to us through shelters. We are here to help and do not judge those who need our help. We operate under the belief that most owners do their best for their dogs. Very often, depending on the circumstances, the “best” thing is surrendering to rescue and granting that dog a new beginning.

We are also here to counsel people who are thinking of surrendering their dog, provide recommended training, health, and/or behavioral resources, assist with veterinary consultations for dogs surrendered to us, find foster homes for dogs surrendered to us, and, of course, forever homes. We give our all to finding the right home for every dog that comes through our program.

Surrendering: To surrender your dog to us, please complete this online form We will get back to you ASAP.

Regrettably, we are unable to intake Vizsla mixes, but try to do a courtesy share with our network given we have applicants who are open to a Vizsla mix. Please be forthcoming when contacting us if you have a mix.

Adopting: We keep adoption applications on file, and match dogs on a “best fit” versus a “first come first served” basis. We are committed to finding the best home for every dog that comes through our program. For example, if we get a dog in the program that isn’t good with children, we will likely not place that dog with children. If we get a dog in the program that has spent the majority of its life accustomed to a large fenced yard and/or property, we will likely not place that dog in a home without a yard. We are very experienced at what we do and want our dogs and our adoptive homes to have happy lives together.

We have an adoption fee of $200 that is occasionally waived depending on the circumstances and/or the health and behavioral needs of a dog being adopted.

To submit an adoption application (kept on file), please complete this online form

Fostering: We are always in need of experienced foster homes. This is a critical role that helps set a dog up for success in its forever home. If you are interested in fostering for us, please contact us at the email below with information about yourself, your location, and your experience with the breed.

General inquiries:  We get a lot of inquiries from homes who are interested in adopting. Please note that we are volunteers and prioritize surrendered dogs and/or families in need of our help before responding to general inquiries. It may take us a little while to respond. Please help us by providing information about yourself, your location, and your experience with dogs and/or Vizslas when you contact us to ask about available dogs.
